This exhibit provokes a new appreciation for the often misunderstood creatures of the night. The Bat Jungle exhibit is the culmination of 40 years of research conducted all over the world by Dr. Richard LaVal, a longtime member of the Monteverde community.
At the Bat Jungle you will learn everything you’ve ever wanted to know about bats. And then a little bit you may not have known you wanted to know about bats. There are a number of interesting exhibits that will teach you about the importance of bat conservation for controlling bugs, regenerating tropical forests, and pollinating flowers. You will hear about specific conservation issues, like making bat houses, and bat exclusion (gently moving them out of a place where they are unwanted).
Once you’ve absorbed all this, you’ll move on to watching bats in action. The bat jungle has more than 40 live bats from 7 different species in a huge flight space (about 52 square meters) that is designed to look like a tropical cloud forest at night. You can watch the bats visit their feeders for fruit and nectar from behind a glass enclosed viewing area.← Back to Activities
