Monteverde Trapiche (Sugar Mill) Tour

The Tour
This tour lasts around 2 hours. The price includes a local guide, round trip transportation and the entrance fee.
Shared Adult Rate Shared Child Rate
$28 $13

A "trapiche" is a small mill. The sugar mill tour is run by a local family; visit their farm and they’ll show you a turn of the century process once used to grow and process sugar.

Your bilingual guide will walk with you through the property, where you can feed the tilapia fish, pick coffee when in season and ride in an ox cart – an artsy old Costa Rican tradition. You’ll try sugar cane juice or lemonade, eat picadillo de arracache (a typical Costa Rican hash made from a root vegetable) and make candy out of sugar cane.

Smokers Be Aware!
Costa Rica has recently passed one of the strictest smoking regulations in the world; hotels are 100% SMOKE FREE.
If you are a guest at the hotel, and want to smoke, by law you are required to leave the property. This is a 300 meter walk to the road outside the main gate, day or night, rain or shine. We realize that this is very inconvenient, but it’s the law. There is an $800 fine for breaking this law.
